Annapurna Circuit Trek

The Annapurna Circuit Trek is one of the world’s most famous and diverse long-distance treks. It circles the entire Annapurna massif, crossing the dramatic Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) one of the highest trekking passes in the world and offering ever-changing landscapes: subtropical valleys, terraced rice fields, traditional Gurung and Manangi villages, deep gorges, high alpine deserts, Buddhist monasteries, and panoramic views of Annapurna I (8,091 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Manaslu, Tilicho Peak, and more.

This trek combines cultural immersion (Gurung, Thakali, Tibetan-influenced communities), natural variety (from lush forests to arid high plateaus), and some of the best mountain scenery in Nepal all in a classic clockwise or anti-clockwise loop.

Detailed itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, the remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing time to recover from your journey. You may choose to rest at the hotel or take a gentle walk through nearby streets to experience Kathmandu’s vibrant culture. Overnight at a comfortable hotel.

This day is dedicated to thorough trek preparation. A detailed briefing will be conducted covering the route, altitude considerations, safety protocols, and daily logistics. Our guides will assist with a complete equipment check to ensure all gear is suitable for high-altitude trekking. There will be time for last-minute shopping or equipment rental if required. Overnight at hotel.

Begin the overland journey toward the Annapurna region, driving through scenic hills, river valleys, and traditional settlements. The route follows the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers, offering insight into rural Nepalese life. Depending on road conditions, reach Jagat or Dharapani by late afternoon. Overnight at a trekking lodge.

Today marks the official start of trekking. The trail follows the Marsyangdi River through pine forests, suspension bridges, and narrow valleys. Gradual elevation gain introduces alpine scenery, with views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal. Arrive at Chame, the administrative center of Manang district, known for its mountain backdrop and hot springs. Overnight at lodge.

Leaving Chame, the trail ascends through forested paths and dramatic rock formations. As elevation increases, the landscape becomes more rugged and arid. The route offers stunning views of Pisang Peak and Annapurna II. Reach Upper Pisang, a traditional Tibetan-influenced village with stone houses and monasteries. Overnight at lodge.

Trek along the high trail via Ghyaru and Ngawal, renowned for exceptional Himalayan panoramas. The gradual ascent allows proper acclimatization while providing expansive views of Annapurna III, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. Descend slightly to Manang, a vibrant village with bakeries, monasteries, and mountain culture. Overnight at lodge.

A crucial rest and acclimatization day. Optional hikes to Gangapurna Lake or viewpoints above Manang help the body adapt to altitude. You may also visit the Himalayan Rescue Association clinic for altitude awareness talks. The afternoon is free for rest and exploration. Overnight at lodge.

Depart Manang toward the remote Tilicho Valley. The trail traverses dry alpine terrain with dramatic cliffs and sweeping mountain views. Carefully navigate landslide-prone sections before reaching Tilicho Base Camp, situated beneath towering peaks. The setting is rugged and isolated, offering a true high-altitude experience. Overnight at lodge.

An early start allows for exploration of the Tilicho region (optional Tilicho Lake visit depending on conditions). The return trail descends carefully along exposed sections before rejoining the main Annapurna Circuit route at Shree Kharka. The surroundings open into wide yak pastures and stark Himalayan landscapes. Overnight at lodge.

The trail gradually ascends across alpine terrain dotted with grazing yaks and sparse vegetation. The pace remains slow and steady to aid acclimatization. Views of Chulu peaks and Thorong La route dominate the horizon. Reach Yak Kharka, a small settlement ideal for altitude adaptation. Overnight at lodge.

Continue ascending gently to Thorong Phedi, the base of the Thorong La Pass. Depending on conditions and fitness, continue to High Camp for a shorter summit day. The afternoon is reserved for rest and hydration in preparation for the pass crossing. Overnight at lodge.

An early alpine start leads to the crossing of Thorong La Pass, the highest point of the trek. Prayer flags mark the summit, offering breathtaking views across the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. A long descent brings you to Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists. Overnight at lodge.

Depending on itinerary preference, trek or drive through the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing through the windswept landscapes of Jomsom. Continue onward to Pokhara by road or flight. Upon arrival, enjoy the comfort of lakeside Pokhara and reflect on the journey. Overnight at hotel.

Return to Kathmandu via scenic highway or optional flight. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for shopping, relaxation, or cultural exploration. Overnight at hotel.

Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward international departure, concluding your Annapurna Circuit and Tilicho Lake adventure.
