Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek
Sitting at 3,210 metres, the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is the most popular short trek in the Annapurna region, cutting through deep green ridges and old mountain paths. The name comes from the local history of the trail. In Nepali, Ghorepani means “Horse Water,” a spot where old trade caravans used to stop for a break, and it still serves as a main gateway to the high Himalayas.
The viewpoint at the top offers one of the best sunrises in Nepal. As the sun comes up, the massive faces of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, and the pointed peak of Machhapuchhre all catch the light, looking much bigger and closer than you would expect. To get there, you have to climb the traditional style paved stone steps at Ulleri and trek through thick woods of red rhododendrons before the final walk in the early morning dark to see the peaks glow against the sky.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, there is time to rest and recover from international travel. Depending on arrival time, you may explore the vibrant streets of Thamel or enjoy a welcome briefing outlining the trek ahead. Overnight at a comfortable hotel.
This day is reserved for trip preparation and relaxation. You will meet your trekking guide for a detailed briefing, review the itinerary, and conduct a final gear check. Any last-minute equipment purchases or rentals can be arranged. The remainder of the day is free to rest, hydrate, and prepare physically and mentally for the journey ahead.
Travel to Pokhara by scenic flight or comfortable tourist vehicle. Pokhara is a beautiful lakeside city nestled beneath the Annapurna range. After arrival, check in to your hotel and enjoy free time by Phewa Lake, with stunning views of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Overnight in Pokhara.
After breakfast, drive to Nayapul, the starting point of the trek. The trail follows villages, terraced farmlands, and riverside paths before beginning a steady uphill climb to Ulleri. This first trekking day introduces the Himalayan landscape and local culture. Overnight at a teahouse lodge in Ulleri.
Today’s trek ascends through rhododendron forests and traditional Gurung villages. The trail steadily climbs to Ghorepani, a popular viewpoint settlement. During spring, the forests are ablaze with colorful blooms. Ghorepani offers breathtaking mountain scenery and prepares you for the famous sunrise hike the following morning.
An early morning hike takes you to Poon Hill, one of Nepal’s most iconic viewpoints, offering panoramic sunrise views of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre. After returning to Ghorepani for breakfast, trek through forested ridgelines to Tadapani. Overnight at a scenic mountain lodge.
Descend through lush forests and stone staircases to the picturesque Gurung village of Ghandruk. After exploring the village and enjoying mountain views, drive back to Pokhara. The afternoon is free to relax, enjoy lakeside dining, or explore the town. Overnight in Pokhara.
Travel back to Kathmandu by flight or road. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is free for sightseeing, souvenir shopping, or relaxation. Optional cultural tours can be arranged. Overnight in Kathmandu.
A leisure day to unwind after the trek. You may explore UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, or Durbar Square, or simply relax at your hotel. This day also serves as a buffer for travel delays.
Transfer to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward international departure. Our team will assist with airport formalities, marking the end of a memorable Himalayan journey.
