Three Passes Trek
The Three Passes Trek is one of the most spectacular and challenging treks in the Everest region, crossing three high mountain passes: Kongma La (5,535 m), Cho La (5,420 m), and Renjo La (5,360 m). This classic high-altitude loop takes you away from the main EBC crowds, offering stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam, and countless other peaks, plus glacial lakes, Sherpa villages, monasteries, and the dramatic Ngozumpa Glacier.
It’s a true mountaineering-style trek with steep ascents, rocky trails, snow-covered passes, and remote sections perfect for fit trekkers seeking adventure, solitude, and some of the best Himalayan panoramas without climbing an 8,000er.
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by our team and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, enjoy time to rest and recover from your international journey. Depending on your arrival schedule, you may explore nearby areas or relax at the hotel. Overnight at a comfortable hotel.
This day is reserved for final trek preparation and administrative formalities. You will attend a detailed briefing covering the itinerary, high-altitude safety, and logistics. A thorough equipment check will be conducted, with opportunities to rent or purchase any missing gear. The remainder of the day is for rest and mental preparation. Overnight at hotel.
An early morning scenic flight takes you to Lukla, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas. After landing at the iconic mountain airstrip, the trek begins along the Dudh Koshi River, passing through Sherpa villages, prayer wheels, and forested trails. The short walk to Phakding allows for gradual acclimatization. Overnight at lodge.
The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges adorned with prayer flags. After entering Sagarmatha National Park, the route climbs steadily toward Namche Bazaar. On clear days, Mount Everest makes its first appearance along the trail. Namche Bazaar is the vibrant heart of the Khumbu region. Overnight at lodge.
A critical acclimatization day to help your body adapt to altitude. A guided hike to Everest View Hotel or nearby Sherpa villages offers panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. The afternoon is free for rest, hydration, and exploration of Namche’s markets and cultural sites. Overnight at lodge.
The trail contours along hillsides with magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam. After descending to the Imja Khola River, the path climbs through forest to Tengboche Monastery, the spiritual center of the Khumbu. Enjoy the serene atmosphere and Himalayan Buddhist culture. Overnight at lodge.
The trek continues through alpine landscapes above the tree line. Passing Pangboche village, one of the oldest Sherpa settlements, the route follows the Imja Khola valley toward Dingboche. Surrounded by stone-walled fields and towering peaks, Dingboche is an important acclimatization stop. Overnight at lodge.
This acclimatization day includes optional hikes to nearby ridges such as Nangkartshang Peak, offering sweeping views of Lhotse, Makalu, and Ama Dablam. The remainder of the day is reserved for rest, hydration, and health monitoring in preparation for the high passes ahead. Overnight at lodge.
A short but scenic trek through the upper Imja Valley leads to Chhukung. The route offers dramatic views of Island Peak, Lhotse, and surrounding glaciers. Chhukung serves as a strategic base before crossing the first high pass. Overnight at lodge.
An early start is required to cross Kongma La, the highest and most demanding of the three passes. The ascent involves traversing rocky terrain and glacial sections before reaching the pass, where spectacular views reward the effort. After descending, the trail joins the Everest Base Camp route at Lobuche. Overnight at lodge.
The trail follows the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep. After lunch, trek to Everest Base Camp, standing at the foot of the world’s highest mountain. The surrounding ice formations and towering peaks create a powerful alpine atmosphere. Return to Gorak Shep for the night. Overnight at lodge.
An early morning climb to Kala Patthar offers unparalleled sunrise views of Everest, Nuptse, and the Khumbu Glacier. After descending, continue the trek toward Dzongla, passing glacial terrain and high alpine landscapes. Overnight at lodge.
Crossing Cho La Pass involves navigating snow and ice sections, often requiring careful footing. The dramatic glacial scenery makes this one of the most memorable days of the trek. After descending into the Gokyo Valley, arrive at Thagnak. Overnight at lodge.
The trail skirts the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal, before reaching the stunning turquoise Gokyo Lakes. Gokyo village is set in a spectacular high-altitude basin beneath Cho Oyu. Overnight at lodge.
An early ascent of Gokyo Ri rewards trekkers with one of the finest panoramic views in the Himalayas, including Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. The afternoon is spent exploring the pristine Gokyo Lakes and relaxing at altitude. Overnight at lodge.
Cross the final high pass, Renjo La, offering dramatic views back toward the Gokyo Valley and Everest region. The descent leads into the quieter Bhote Koshi Valley and the village of Lungden. Overnight at lodge.
Descending steadily, the trail passes through remote settlements and highland pastures before reaching Thame, a traditional Sherpa village known for its monastery and mountaineering heritage. Overnight at lodge.
The trail follows the Bhote Koshi River back toward Namche Bazaar. Returning to the lively hub of the Khumbu region marks the near completion of the circuit. Overnight at lodge.
The final trekking day retraces the route along the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges and passing familiar villages. Arrive in Lukla, where the trek concludes. Overnight at lodge.
Take an early morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free for rest, shopping, or optional sightseeing. Overnight at hotel.
